Thank you for the great tips, especially the one on gender neutrality when someone enters the room (6-25). I was taught that only men stood; good to know the rule has changed.

Oh, this is hilarious. I know it is true but absolutely hilarious.

And on a dress for success note. I once had a candidate who obviously thought she would be interviewing with a man. She spent the entire interview tugging at her skirt hem (trying to make it longer) and her neckline (trying to make it higher). She hung out everywhere. Even her shoes were priceless (flipflops). And this was for a client facing marketing position. I should have ended the interview within a minute or two but I decided to let her struggle for a good 30 minutes. Maybe she learned something. Ya think?

I like that approach. . .hopefully folk won't think I've "lost it" if I'm seen doing it. It's unfortunate how customers leave messages and talk so fast there's no way to capture the number. Which makes it more challenging to provide the service excellence they deserve from their HR professional!

re: 5-21-09 One of the best ways to make sure that you are saying your telephone number slowly enough is to write it in the air with your finger while you say the number: ensuring that you're speaking at approximately writing speed.

Great tips here, thanks!

I haven't experienced the Invisalign problem, but do remember similar problems when childhood friends wore retainers. But you know what I find so rude at work...when somebody blows up the bathroom and doesn't flush twice. We all know that if you really-really blow it up you need to flush, wait for the water to fill, and flush again! No one wants to see your flakes!!! Sorry, but this just happened minutes ago.

Unfortunately while the shift of a lot of interaction going online has some great benefits, it also has pitfalls. One of those is the lack of courtesy from less interactions, less manners, and less tolerance and patience overall. Hopefully we can balance the two and become more technologically advanced, but still keep our values!
